Reflections On A Sunset 20/12/2001

I would wish to rise again and be myself today.
For, if I never voiced my thoughts in song,
I may have written a hundred tunes in vain.
Be still the incessant tomorrow -
Forever travelling yet never arriving.
The ephemeral offers no food for my soul.
Children at play live well without such thoughts -
Wise in their ignorance, party to the greater Truth
That shines out as bright as the sun:
Ye are no more free of destiny than of your shadow.
Like a last shaft of sunlight through the clouds,
A truth spoken at the right time is without price.
Gaze for a while at the phrasing of the sky and
Drink in its tinting deeper than measure or words.
For so also was every chance you had to serve,
Opportunities for love which came your way today
Purposed for no one else under the sun.
Today, just as surely, is the last of its kind.
